Capcom has announced that worldwide shipments of Resident Evil 7 have surpassed three million units.
Releasing to critical acclaim and shipping 2.5 million units in its first week on sale, Resident Evil 7 has been a successful venture for Capcom in a number of ways.
Capcom is truly on to a victor as Resident Evil 7 has shipped over 7 million copies worldwide.
In a baffling turn of events, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter managed to gross $1 billion worldwide. Despite being one of the higher reviewed entries in the series, the film averaged a 49 rating on Metacritic.
These numbers are impressive for sure, but it's worth noting that they aren't necessarily as strong as Capcom was hoping. Terrifying fans at events across the globe previous year, the PlayStation VR "KITCHEN" tech demo was developed utilizing the RE Engine's VR oriented tools, and is the foundation on which the talented Resident Evil team has crafted the immersive horror experience in Resident Evil 7. This means the series is likely to retain the survival horror aspect which was lost when Resident Evil 5 and 6 came out.
