To the surprise of pretty much no one, she and Frank will struggle to put their marriage back together.
Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Frank (Tobias Menzies) will struggle after they reunite in "Outlander" Season 3. "It's a broken marriage", Balfe noted.
Claire and Frank will be living in Boston in the 1950's while she's busy trying to make her life work while mourning the loss of Jamie.
TV Insider's photos from Season 3 reveal Claire pushing a baby carriage and a fight with Frank.
While filming at the freezing Dunure Harbour for "Outlander" season 3, Sam Heughan (James "Jamie" Mackenzie Fraser) and Caitriona Balfe (Claire Beauchamp Randall/Fraser) fearless the cold to finish up the shoot. "That leads to disappointment and resentment", Balfe tells TV Insider.
"Claire decides to focus on her career and tries to slot Frank in", she teased. Not only does this give her a lot to focus on in the coming season, but it also means the show can explore more of Claire's marriage than was included in the books. Though they have not actually gotten to film the scene yet, Balfe thinks the writers are aware of the fans' interest and the fact that they need to do justice to it. In season 3, she will try to fix the marriage with a man who looks identical to the evil Redcoat Captain who hunted her in the 18th century, raped and tortured her husband, and raped a young boy. "And it's very tough for her, because this is a man who really didn't do anything wrong". Would she pursue Frank or would she love him in the great distance?
The South African set is meant to represent Jamaica and the Caribbean, where Jamie and Claire sail to find Ian. "And that will never happen for Claire, so she feels love for him but also feels she has to keep him at an arm's length". Principal filming for the locations is set to take place in South Africa, though time and places have not been announced.
What is known so far is the production team and cast will spend months of filming in South Africa and probably be in the country until May.
While Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have repeatedly said that they are just friends, their words are just falling on deaf ears as the fans are still aggressively shipping the two to become an official item.
"Outlander" Season 2 ended with Claire determined to go back to Jamie, but in Season 3, viewers will get to catch up on what she has been going through in the 20th century.
