A massive fire broke out at an apartment complex under construction in Overland Park, Kansas on Monday afternoon.

Rhodes said, as of 7 p.m., it was still an active fire scene.

Aerial pictures from KSHB-TV show the fire.

Flames and heavy black smoke poured from the multi-story apartment building. Embers spread from the big fire, setting area homes on fire. The building is still under construction and officials say no one was living there at the time.

There are no reports of injuries.

Fire departments from across Johnson County have been called in to help battle the blaze.

Multiple homes near the apartments were also on fire.

The cause of the fire is now unknown.

The developer of the apartment complex told 41 Action News that two of the buildings still under construction are a total loss. Some homeowners tried to fight the fires with garden hoses.

"As of this hour, we have not been informed of any injuries at the CityPlace development, but we are still attempting to contact those who were working at the site today". Our thoughts and concerns remain with those who are directly impacted by this event.
