"With that team it's always going to be a physical game, always going to be trash talking and things like that". We're basketball players. We love it. The rest seemed to favour the Celtics who came back shooting and took a two-possession lead for the first time in the game.
Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 19 points, while John Wall added 16 markers. "When I think of rivalries, I think of years upon years upon years of in the making". "Nobody did anything dirty". He scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists in the first 12 minutes and finished with 20 points, 9 rebounds and four assists. He admitted that his knee isn't 100 percent, but there was no doubt that he would play. The Celtics defeated the Wizards 110-102.
Marcus Smart had a basket and two free throws to seal it.
The bad feelings built up between the teams this season resurfaced briefly midway into the second quarter. "I just wish we would have made more shots", Wizards coach Scott Brooks plainly told reporters after a season-low 36.7 percent effort from the field. They are now only 1-2 since the road trip and they have struggled against sub-par teams.
The Celtics held a comfortable lead at the break, but they didn't get complacent. Crowder pointed his finger in Wall's face, and Wall slapped at him. However, Boston came alive soon after and went on several big runs to head into halftime with a 58-47 lead. Bojan Bogdanovic and Markieff Morris had 14 points apiece. But Boston stayed in front throughout the third quarter with the chippy play only allowing Washington to slightly chip away at the lead. The team looking their bounce back win tonight to Boston.
"Avery, obviously, is a leader in that (playing great defense)", Stevens said.
"We just haven't had a ton of time with ourselves fully healthy", he said. "It's our job to make sure we're prepared mentally and physically". "Regardless of who we're playing against, there aren't any secrets".
The Wizards have gotten much better on the road, but in order to win those hard games they will need their offense and defense to play in tip top shape. Less than two weeks before the "funeral" game, during a 117-108 Celtics win on January 11, some trash talk led to Wall giving a light slap at the face of Celtics forward Jae Crowder, who had to be restrained from physically responding.
UP NEXTThe Celtics continue their homestand Wednesday night against the Indiana Pacers. It won't be playoff atmosphere just yet, but you can bet the intensity from both teams will be as high as you can hope to see for a regular season matchup.
