The Dallas Cowboys attempted to trade Romo, but he ultimately chose to take a job in the booth with CBS, replacing Phil Simms on the network's No. 1 announcing team. 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Dak Prescott is now firmly entrenched as the starter under center.
Romo, who has spent his entire professional career with the Cowboys, had been tipped to join either the Denver Broncos or the Houston Texans in an attempt to reignite his career.
"As we welcome Tony, we want to acknowledge Phil Simms who served as our lead National Football League analyst for almost 20 years".
"Regardless of our teams around us - some years he had great defenses, other years, I had some really talented guys - usually we went back and forth and the games came down to the wire nearly all the time", he said.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has transitioned from the pocket to the booth.
"We wish Tony and his family nothing but the best". The Cowboys released Romo Tuesday, giving him the opportunity to sign with any team should he decide he wants to play again. Romo was able to participate in one game at the end of the season, throwing a touchdown pass against the Philadelphia Eagles.
"Tony has been a wonderful representative of the Cowboys organisation for 14 years, and he left everything he had on the field". The Cowboys have announced that they have officially released the quarterback.
The Giants and Cowboys have had plenty of close games during the tenure of both quarterbacks, and even though Romo wasn't close with many opponents off of the field, he feels that his relationship with Manning is a special one.
Romo played 13 seasons for the Cowboys.
Romo, 36, has had a string of injuries over the last few years that often kept him out of the game, only playing five games in the past two seasons. He makes his coaches better. Garrett also claimed that Tony's spirit is contagious, making his team better.
