Comedian and 'Chapelle's Show' Actor Charlie Murphy Dead at 57

Charlie Murphy, Chappelle Show star and Eddie Murphy's older brother, has died, publicist Domenick Nati told The Hollywood Reporter.

Murphy was perhaps best known for his skits involving a fictionalized Rick James character on "Chappelle's Show". Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers.

"We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us".

Comedian Charlie Murphy has lost his battle with leukaemia at the age of 57.

Here's Murphy on Chappelle's Show telling his most famous story, about a run-in with Prince that involved basketball and, later, pancakes. The most important is that of the Murphy family including his brother, Eddie, expressing their grief over the loss of Charlie.

He also loaned his voice to animated TV series The Boondocks and popular video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. In 2016, he was part of the Get Down Comedy Tour alongside Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, D.L. Hughley and George Lopez.

Murphy co-wrote films Norbert and Vampire In Brooklyn, which starred his brother, and appeared in the Adult Swim series Black Jesus. His wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy, preceded him in death in 2009.

Before his lengthy career in Hollywood, Charlie Murphy served in the U.S. Navy for six years as a boiler technician.

Taking to the social media platform the actor had written to his 240,000 followers: "Rise & Grind: Wake up with the rising sun and seize the day!" "I loved Charlie Murphy".

The comedian's Twitter account sent a final note Tuesday evening that read: "One to Sleep On: Release the past to rest as deeply as possible".
