Suspect sought in shooting of Hamilton mobster

Hamilton police are probing the apparent fatal shooting of notorious mobster Angelo Musitano. He was rushed to Hamilton General Hospital but later died.

A Waterdown neighbourhood is cordoned off Tuesday evening as police investigate a death.

According to the Hamilton Spectator, Musitano is the victim.

Staff Sgt. Peter Thom says Musitano is the younger brother of Pat Musitano and believes the shooting was targeted.

In 1997, the Musitano brothers were charged with first-degree murder in ordering the death of Hamilton mob boss Johnny "Pops" Papalia.

He is described as a man with a heavy build and was wearing a dark toque, black jacket and beige trousers. He was seen getting into a dark-coloured, four-door sedan and fleeing north along the street.

There is heavy police presence on Chesapeake Drive, including forensics investigators.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-546-4925 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
