"We look forward to making an announcement later today", White House spokeswoman Kelly Love told TPM in an email.
"Justice Larsen has served the people of MI very well as a Supreme Court Justice and is an outstanding choice for President Trump to appoint to the federal appeals court", Snyder said in a press release.
On the list of those to be announced are Justice Joan Larsen from MI and Justice David Stras from Minnesota.
Stras formerly clerked for conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and shares the belief in a limited role for the judiciary. Trump has nominated Larsen to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.
After the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected his immigration ban, Trump emphatically tweeted last February "SEE YOU IN COURT!"
"Packing the federal courts with judges whose records suggest they want to weaken critical constitutional rights and legal protections would undermine the Constitution's promise of equal justice for all, and cause serious harm to millions of Americans", said Nan Aron, founder and president of the Alliance for Justice. President Donald Trump on May 8, 2017, announced 10 judicial candidate nominations.
-Damien Schiff, a lawyer with the Pacific Legal Foundation, nominated to the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
Leonard Leo, executive vice president of the Federalist Society, praised the list as "very impressive", adding that these nominees "are natural prospects for federal judicial service at the Court of Appeals level". Russell Wheeler, who tracks court nominations at the Brookings Institution, says that's partly because for the last two years, the Republican-controlled Senate dragged its feet.
Amy Coney Barrett of IN will be nominated to serve on the 7th Circuit.
The list includes five nominees for federal appeals courts, which are one step below the Supreme Court and decide far more cases annually than the high court.
CURRENT POSITION: Palk was hired as assistant dean of students at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2011, following a 19-year career as a state and federal prosecutor. If confirmed, Friedrich of Washington, D.C., will serve as a District Judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Nye was previously nominated for the same seat by President Obama but never received a vote in front of the full Senate. Two of the district court nominees will be formally nominated in the near future. John Bush is now a partner in the Louisville office of Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP and is Co-Chair of the firm's Litigation Department.
The Free Press reported Saturday that Snyder is expected to appoint Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Kurtis Wilder to replace Young.
