The All India Tax Advocates' Forum (AITAF) has urged the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to ensure confidentiality of the details furnished by the assesses with the tax authorities under the new tax regime of the Goods and Service Tax (GST).
Haryana, being ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party since October 2014, is the eighth state to pass the GST Bill. The GST will have a central component and a state component, which both forms of government will administer at their levels.
Others members included the leader of opposition Ajay Singh, party's chief whip Ramniwas Rawat, Mahendra Singh Kalukheda, Mukesh Naik, Bala Bachchan and Jaivardhan Singh.
Referring to the provisions of the Delhi Value Added Tax Act, Gandhi clarified that all particulars contained in any statement or documents produced in accordance with this Act are treated as confidential.
He said that a uniform tax regime would be implemented in the country through the GST after incorporating different taxes.
"The World Bank has stated that the GST will also enhance capital investment and generate more employment".
A special one-day session had been convened for the passage of the Bill.
The GST Council's rate fitment committee is said to have deliberated for three days starting May 4, 2017, to align all goods and services to different slabs and decide on bringing more items now out of indirect taxation at central and state levels into the unified tax net. It is also expected to approve rates of remaining items.The Council has already approved half of the rules that are required for rolling out of GST from the scheduled date.
