North Korea lashes out at United States over UN push to enforce sanctions

North Korea says it will seek extradition of plot culprits

As Tensions Simmer, CIA Says It Will Spy Even Harder on Pyongyang

Also detained in the country are Otto Warmbier, a college student arrested in 2016 who was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for trying to take a piece of North Korean propaganda back home for a church friend who asked him to bring it to him in exchange for a new auto; Tony Kim, a Korean-American professor arrested in April after teaching accounting for a month at Pyongyang University of Science and Technology and Kim Dong Chul, a businessman arrested in 2015 who is serving a 10-year sentence for espionage.

The Trump Administration has insisted in recent weeks they consider diplomacy to have "failed", and President Trump appeared very dismissive of the new push for diplomacy today, saying he would only accept discussion with North Korea "under certain circumstances".

Nearly every day for the past week has been filled with state-run articles out of North Korea on its determination to hunt down the plotters who tried to take out the "supreme leader".

"We have plans to send special envoys to the four countries, but nothing has been decided on who will be sent, when or to how many countries", Moon's office said as quoted by the Yonhap news agency. Abe, whose government has lobbied for greater defensive capabilities, warned Moon "dialogue for dialogue's sake would be meaningless" without "sincere and concrete action" on the part of North Korea.

BEIJING (AP) - A top North Korean diplomat said Saturday that Pyongyang would be willing to meet with the Trump administration for negotiations "if the conditions are set". He also may need to forge political unity at home after months of upheaval that included his predecessor's impeachment.

In statements for foreign distribution, North Korea often refers to its leader Kim Jong-un without naming him, instead using the phrase "supreme leadership" or "supreme dignity".

"I, too, aim to find a way to begin talks quickly between North and South Korea as well as the six-party talks", Moon said, referring to talks aimed at denuclearizing North Korea involving the United States, China, Japan, Russia and the two Koreas. The person wasn't authorized to publicly discuss the diplomacy and demanded anonymity.

Two of the detainees were arrested within the past month, and while North Korea has promised to deal with its prisoners in accordance with the law, that isn't exactly comforting.

North Korea has detained at least 16 US citizens in the past 10 years. The U.S. side comprised Suzanne DiMaggio at the New America think tank, former United Nations ambassador Thomas Pickering, retired four-star Adm. William Fallon and former State Department nuclear negotiator Robert Einhorn.
