The Amazon Echo Show's advantage over a simple tablet is the 8-microphone array that utilizes beam-forming audio tech with noise cancellation to have Alexa hear you from anywhere in the room, even while music is playing. Also, you would not want to give your co-workers, some random vendors the access to that speaker at your home. And each one now has a direct line into my home. This way my young kids get exposed early to this future of interaction with computers and learn how to best leverage them.
Based on another response from Amazon, it appears that if you wish for this mass import to not happen, the contacts would have to be deleted from the Alexa app's contact log. You can't even block those unwanted contacts from contacting you. Other features include voice over ip phone calls and displaying answers on screen.
If mom says you don't call enough, have Alexa do it for you. You will then enter your phone number and an Amazon rep will call you.
Okay, this is not all. The problem: it'll automatically pull down every single contact you have that uses the Alexa app. I combed through Amazon's entire Alexa-to-Alexa calling support site to find out how to deactivate calling and messaging but couldn't find instructions, so I reached out to Amazon. The content of the messages cannot be hidden too, you can delete them but cannot stop receiving them. As Chaim Gartenberg wrote in The Verge, "I personally can not imagine ever letting my friends have this power, but maybe that's just me". For the sake of convenience, Alexa is able to pull down your contact list and automatically populate it inside of this new feature. The users will have to call the company's customer care service to make this happen.
The feature builds on Amazon's Chime video conferencing for businesses and is in step with Microsoft's Skype for Business and Cisco's WebEx.
