News of the major cast departures follows Morrison's announcement that she would be leaving the series on Monday, after six seasons playing Emma Swan.
Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Emilie de Ravin and Jared S. Gilmore will be done with the show after the Season 6 finale, according to Deadline None of those actors were on the list of characters that were expected to return as the show pivots in a new direction for next season.
Once Upon a Time's cast continues to dwindle ahead of its seventh season. In addition to Goodwin, Dallas, de Ravin, and Gilmore, Rebecca Mader is not returning for season seven either.
That only leaves three current series regular who will return for season 7: Lana Parrilla as Regina, Colin O'Donoghue as Hook and Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin. Rumple will be without Belle, Hook will be without Emma, and Regina will be without Henry (or at least the Henry that we know).
Emilie "took the character of Belle to a deep and soulful place" 'and 'Rebecca took us on a broomstick roller coaster ride as she re-invented the Wicked Witch of the West by finding the pain beneath the green'. She made the character soar to incredible heights while always keeping her grounded and relatable.
"Words can't do justice to what Ginny, Josh, Emilie, Rebecca, and Jared brought to Once Upon a Time... but we'll try... never have we had the privilege of working with a more talented group of collaborators. Each brought unique talent, incredible intelligence, and their own individual bit of magic as they gave life to these iconic characters", the statement read as quoted by Entertainment Weekly.
'We can't thank them enough for the hard work, dedication, and passion they delivered day in and day out.
She wrote on Instagram: 'To my Darling Pretties, A lot of you have been asking if I will be joining everyone in Season 7, so I wanted to let you know personally that, unfortunately, I am not. Without them, there would be no ONCE UPON A TIME.
As Once continues, this group will always be the beating heart of the show. "And even though we won't be with them every week, in a show about magic and hope, we fervently believe it won't be the last we see of them", the statement added. "We've been telling a story for six years now for these characters and now we're trying to complete that story, but that doesn't mean they don't have other stories".
Toward that end, two brand new characters will appear in Sunday's two-hour finale, played by Andrew J. West (The Walking Dead) and Alison Fernandez (Jane the Virgin). "De Ravin has since reached out to fans on Instagram and said, "[While I would] have loved to continue exploring Belle's journey, the show has made a decision to move in a different creative direction. I am truly happy for you all and most importantly for the fans that will get to keep tuning in each week to see where they will take us".
Once Upon a Time will be going through some majors shifts after Sunday's two-part season finale, but we already have an idea where things will be heading in the next season.
