Mom of boy who killed himself vows he 'will be heard'

A handful of parents and others are demonstrating outside the elementary school attended by an 8-year-old OH boy who killed himself two days after a bully knocked him unconscious.

According to her attorneys, Reynolds didn't learn of the bullying until the attorneys received a copy of a police investigative file that contained an email from a homicide detective to school officials describing the surveillance video.

School officials have been critical of a homicide detective's description of what happened in the surveillance video recorded January 24. The coroner for Hamilton County has stated that she will be re-opening her investigation into young Gabriel's death. He had hanged himself using his own neckties.

A handful of parents and others are demonstrating outside the elementary school attended by an 8-year-old OH boy who killed himself two days after a bully knocked him unconscious.

Two days later, the boy died by suicide.

The Cincinnati homicide detective looked at the video almost a week after Gabriel's death and wrote a February 3 report recounting the assault. It then shows Gabriel trying to shake the bully's hand and being thrown against a wall, knocking him unconscious, the attorneys said.

The surveillance video shows that the principal of the grade school found Gabriel within 4 ½ minutes after Gabriel was shoved into the wall and fell to the floor unconscious.

"Though the connection between this incident at school and Gabriel's suicide are not clear, the district shared this video with police investigators at the time of the incident", the school district said in its statement Thursday.

Reynolds' attorneys also have viewed the video. He was on the floor just over seven minutes. The Hamilton County coroner said earlier that she is reopening the investigation into Gabriel's suicide.

The attorney for the mother of the 8-year-old boy who committed suicide in OH has accused the elementary school, where the boy attended, of hiding the truth of an assault from his mother.

Four months later, the Hamilton County coroner in OH requested police investigate whether whether the 8-year-old's suicide resulted from possible bullying at school and should be ruled a homicide. A coroner's spokesman says new evidence prompted the reopening, but he wouldn't say what that evidence is.

District officials and attorneys for Gabriel's mother have disputed what the mother was told the day Gabriel was knocked unconscious. Leader said the boy came home from school on January 26, spoke with his mother and went into his bedroom. One of them, Kathryn Lundy, said she pulled her two children from the school two years ago because of bullying. Doctors diagnosed him with a stomach virus and sent him home. He had no signs of any medical or mental health issues, and was an "adorable" and "happy-go-lucky" child.

On Mother's Day, Cornelia Reynolds will remember her "only child, my best friend and my first true love". "It is our firm position that the allegations portrayed in the media are not supported by the video".

On Friday, a small group of demonstrators gathered on the sidewalk outside Carson Elementary, with some parents complaining about their children being bullied.

"Gabe was a very loving little boy who always had a smile on his face and would bring a smile to your face", Emery said. The mother's attorneys said her sister, who was caring for the boy while she was at work that night, called to tell her the boy had been vomiting.

Sammarco, the coroner, said she wants to know more about the incident, too.
