"The atmosphere, intensity and skill displayed in the NCAA national championship match is the best that college tennis has to offer and we're appreciative of the partnership that will allow these student-athletes the spotlight to display that on ESPNU", said Marija Pientka, senior associate athletics director at Wisconsin and chair of the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Committee.
In doubles play, the competition stayed close in the beginning, with the teams on Courts 2 and 3 staying within one game of each other. Shortly after, Carl Soderlund pushed UVa to the brink of victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win on the third singles court. "We really carried the momentum into singles".
INDIANAPOLIS--The NCAA, in partnership with the United States Tennis Association, has announced that the team national championship matches of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will be televised live on ESPNU. They were really good at the big moments and took their chances and played really well, but I thought we were in control for a lot of the match. "It got a little tight at the end but we were fortunate to close it out". Virginia has reached the semifinals in each of the last seven years and nine of the last 10 seasons.
