The No. 2 Virginia men's tennis team continued its quest for a third straight NCAA team title with a 4-0 victory over No. 15 Florida (19-10) in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 on Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia. Alfredo Perez-Johannes Ingildsen led their ranked opponent throughout the match, but the Cavaliers clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on Court 3 and then a 6-4 win on Court 2.

Virginia will face 10-seed Texas (22-8) on Saturday, May 20 at 12 p.m. The Longhorns upset 7 seed Baylor, 4-1, on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals. The victor will advance to the semifinals, which will take place on Monday.

Virginia emerged with a tightly-contested doubles point, earning twin 6-4 results on the second and third courts courtesy of seniors Alexander Ritschard (Zurich, Switzerland) and Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) as well as junior Collin Altamirano (Sacramento, Calif.) and senior J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.).

"The atmosphere, intensity and skill displayed in the NCAA national championship match is the best that college tennis has to offer and we're appreciative of the partnership that will allow these student-athletes the spotlight to display that on ESPNU", said Marija Pientka, senior associate athletics director at Wisconsin and chair of the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Committee.

In doubles play, the competition stayed close in the beginning, with the teams on Courts 2 and 3 staying within one game of each other. Shortly after, Carl Soderlund pushed UVa to the brink of victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win on the third singles court. "We really carried the momentum into singles".

INDIANAPOLIS--The NCAA, in partnership with the United States Tennis Association, has announced that the team national championship matches of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will be televised live on ESPNU. They were really good at the big moments and took their chances and played really well, but I thought we were in control for a lot of the match. "It got a little tight at the end but we were fortunate to close it out". Virginia has reached the semifinals in each of the last seven years and nine of the last 10 seasons.
