- An 18-year-old was shot by police after they say he led them on a chase into a Manassas park.

An investigation is underway after an 18-year-old and Manassas City police exchanged fire in a park overnight, Prince William County police said. Manassas police pursued the auto into Prince William County and the chase eventually ended inside the park at 14420 Bristow Road in Manassas.

"The driver eventually stopped the vehicle in a parking lot within the park and exited", Perok said.

But the driver "ignored officers", according to a Prince William County Police spokesman and the vehicle did not stop.

The man was armed with a weapon, and two police cruisers were damaged in the incident, officials said. The driver was flown to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Manassas City Police Internal Affairs are handling the administrative aspect of the incident, but officials were not immediately available for comment early Friday morning.

"We will obviously be interviewing the officers and those involved", Perok said.

Perok says officers and a 15-year-old girl inside the vehicle weren't injured.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

Due to the location of the shooting, Prince William County police say they are investigating the "criminal aspect of the shooting".
