Corden tells Entertainment Tonight that while they shot the segment, he and Katy discussed whether she should accept the offer to become a judge on ABC's American Idol reboot.
"I think Katy's going to be a great judge on the show", Lambert gushed to ET during the ASCAP Pop Music Awards in Los Angeles, California, on Thursday.
Katy hasn't confirmed if she's really getting paid the seriously insane fee for heading to American Idol, though we're guessing Perry probably wasn't all that swayed by the price tag if the claims are true. The network, which publicly had been courting the singer, made the announcement during its upfront presentation in Manhattan. Her incredible accolades speak for themselves. "We are so lucky to have this strong and talented woman help inspire and guide the next crop of artists as they pursue their dreams". While the rest of the roster has yet to be revealed, Perry couldn't be more "thrilled" about her new gig. "I'm always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough - from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music". Original judge Simon Cowell was apparently asked but refused to return.
"The cost factor is important to Idol's long-term survival as the show originally wore out its welcome on Fox due to a combination of sagging ratings and an expensive price tag", EW said of why ABC likely won't be willing to shell out another combined $20 million+ for another two judges.
In other news, "American Idol" is expected to undergo several "format changes".
American Idol is produced by FremantleMedia North America and Core Media Group's 19 Entertainment.
The exact schedule of "American Idol's" return on ABC has yet to be announced.
