Trump launches first foreign trip in Saudi

Trump - whose face, alongside a picture of King Salman, was displayed on billboards across the city in anticipation of his arrival, under the slogan "Together We Prevail" - received a red carpet reception at the airport, where Saudi air force armed with rifles stood at attention awaiting Air Force One.

Also joining the president: first lady Melania Trump, who disembarked Air Force One alongside her husband Saturday in a flowing black jumpsuit with a gold belt.

Even his hand gestures may draw scrutiny in the Middle East, where the thumbs-up sign, a Trump trademark, is considered taboo. He also told them that firing Comey had "taken off" the "great pressure" he was feeling from the investigation, the Times reported. The kingdom's ruling family grew deeply frustrated with former President Barack Obama's detente with Iran and his restrained approach to the conflict in Syria.

One billboard featured an iconic photograph of King Abdulaziz Al Saud and USA president Franklin D Roosevelt meeting aboard a ship near the Suez Canal in 1945, where the security-for-oil deal that has been the backbone of the nations' relationship was hashed out.

In another development, the Washington Post said a current White House official close to Trump was a significant "person of interest" in the investigation into possible ties between Trump's presidential campaign a year ago and Russian Federation.

Trump was joined by first lady Melania Trump and several senior White House aides who were interspersed with Saudi officials throughout a grand ballroom. The king did not greet Obama at the airport when he visited past year.

"Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on", he told a rally in the state of SC in December a year ago.

It is also meant to bolster the kingdom's ability to contribute to counterterrorism operations across the region, "reducing the burden on the USA military to conduct those operations".

Saudi Arabia offered Trump an elaborate welcome ahead of his two-day stay.

German chancellor Angela Merkel also visited Saudi Arabia with her head uncovered a few weeks later, after her country's government approved a ban on civil servants, judges and soldiers wearing Islamic full-face veils at work.

Trump and the king met briefly in the airport terminal for a coffee ceremony before the president headed to his hotel before the day's other meetings.

The clips have gone viral, now a friend has stated that the First Lady isn't happy in her new life.

He is also hoping to move past the controversies engulfing his administration.

President Donald Trump is receiving the nation's highest civilian honor from Saudi King Salman.

White House officials have said they consider Trump's visit, and his keynote address, a counterweight to President Obama's debut speech to the Muslim world in 2009 in Cairo. The issue of terrorism and relations between the U.S. and Muslim countries are expected to dominate the summit.

The visit is aimed at building stronger partnerships to combat terrorism in the region.

Seated among the USA advisers were the most powerful members of the Saudi government, including Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the powerful son of the King who is advocating for major reforms in the kingdom.

It notably refrains from mentioning democracy and human rights - topics Arab leaders often view as United States moralizing - in favor of the more limited goals of peace and stability.

The White House did not deny the report, but said the "the real story is that our national security has been undermined by the leaking of private and highly classified conversations". Trump has also adopted more muted rhetoric on human rights.
