Jose Mourinho has insisted that Manchester United's final fixture of the Premier League season should have been moved to tomorrow to give them more time to prepare for next week's Europa League final against Ajax. We trained with 24 players today, with no one injured so instead of looking at United, I look at my team.
"The only positive is for me to save my players and give him the opportunity for Wednesday".
Mourinho said: "Sometimes the players understand the situation, sometimes they still feel they are 24 or 25". We finished fifth (in last season's Premier League), we went to the Europa League.
While he wants to preserve his top players for the Europa League final on Wednesday, Mourinho admits that he will bring in a few of the senior stars to help out the youngsters on Sunday.
"I hope the fans on Sunday support the team, they forgive some naivety, they forgive some lack of confidence and I hope Big Sam (Allardyce, Palace's manager) shows he's a good friend and he goes slow".
In the 0-0 draw at Southampton yesterday morning (Singapore time), he again selected an understrength XI, omitting Marcus Rashford, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba and David de Gea.
Tim Fosu-Mensah will play after a shoulder injury and Pogba will feature after missing the previous two matches following his father's death.
"Smalling has a problem, a smalll problem that I think it is no problem for next week, but is a problem for the weekend". "A strong guy, strong mentality". He is learning how to live after his father died, but he knows he needs to play on Sunday.
"It's a great experience for the kids but they are not ready".
"To play so many kids at the same time I don't think it is good because there is a big difference in quality, strength and experience". I enjoy the second because in the second I know I'm not making mistakes.
"With so many at the same time, I think they really need my support, (reserves manager) Nicky Butt's support (and) supporters to understand the hard job they have, because it will not be an easy one for them. Of course we try to bring the ones we think are more adapted to the needs of my team at this moment".
