TRUMP: I hardly know the man.
"No, I didn't say that", Trump said at a press conference at the White House on Friday.
Trump had raised the possibility that his conversations with Comey were recorded in a May 12 tweet he sent several days after he fired him.
But the president accusing the former FBI director of a felony is sure to pique the interest of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, whose investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation is picking up momentum. But he made clear his stance that Comey said nothing to the Intelligence Committee that proved Trump or his campaign associates were in cahoots with Moscow during the election or before he was sworn in, nor that Trump obstructed justice in his private talks with Comey.
"Frankly, James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said, and some of the things that he said just weren't true", Trump said.
Trump said numerous claims made by Comey "just weren't true", but he refrained from calling the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director a liar outright. Comey, who was sacked by Trump in May, delivered a scathing indictment of the president on Thursday at a congressional hearing in which he accused Trump of trying to block the investigation into Flynn.
"Well, I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future", Trump said.
Trump's aides have repeatedly dodged questions about whether conversations relevant to the Russian Federation investigation have been recorded, and so did the president.
Later in the day, White House adviser Kellyanne Conway refused to comment on whether a recording existed, or not.
But most Democrats have a far different view of the Comey impact and are eager for the congressional and special counsel investigations to unfold.
Reporters pointed out Comey delivered his testimony under oath, and asked the president if he would also do the same.
In the testimony, Comey acknowledged Trump's tweets himself.
Trump made the remarks while responding to questions on Comey's explosive testimony in which he accused the president of trying to stop a probe into the alleged Russian interference in the U.S. elections previous year. "I'm going to open an investigation against you" - that's clearly witness intimidation, and that itself is obstruction of justice", Painter said.
But we might know if any tapes exist sooner rather than later. "If I didn't, I did it for almost all of them, especially the ones that were substantive", he said. "Those were lies, plain and simple", Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee. Before he called on ABC News' Jon Karl, he described the press gallery as the "killer networks that treat me so badly", and again invoked the phrase "fake news".
"I found him to be credible, candid and thorough", Collins said of Comey on MSNBC's "Morning Joe". "When you take all the drama away, the bottom line is that he said President Trump has never been under investigation".
