Warriors near sweep of Cavs

Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry are the main reason why Golden State is halfway to capturing another NBA championship

NBA Finals 2017: Warriors vs. Cavaliers LIVE SCORE UPDATES Game 3 (6/7/17)

"It's not in terms of 16-0 and what that means historically, it's just that's what's in front of us".

Golden State still leads the best-of-seven series 3-1 with game five set for Monday in Oakland, California.

Both figures broke NBA Finals records, while the Cavs also made history with their 24 three-pointers in the game as they dealt the Warriors their first defeat in this season's playoffs. Cleveland's coming back, again.

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue the 2017 NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors on Friday. James finished with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for his ninth triple-double, passing Magic Johnson for first place in Finals history. Point guard Kyrie Irving added 39 points, though he missed all seven of his three-point shots. But he hasn't been the same Irving who was often unstoppable earlier in the playoffs, and whose heroics - including the series-winning three-pointer - helped them to the title a year ago.

During his career, James has played for two "super teams" somewhat comparable to what the Warriors have assembled for this season.

At one point, it was announced that Green had been given his second technical foul, and security came onto the floor to usher the volatile forward to the locker room.

"We knew how good he was, but just how clutch he's been, how many big shots he's hit for us", Warriors' coach Steve Kerr said of what has impressed him about Durant this series.

The Warriors are typically the team raining 3-pointers upon their opponents, but the Cavs are no slouch from beyond the arc. In the scrum, Pachulia appeared to kick Iman Shumpert-who was standing over him-once and punch him twice.

Prior to Game 3, James dismissed the idea he's exhausted from guarding Durant. The Cavs led 115-96.

When the Warriors inevitably go on a 10-0 run (or more) to grab a lead, how will Cleveland respond? The Cavs were determined not to let the Warriors celebrate on their floor for the second time in three years, and it was Cleveland, not Golden State, which busted Finals scoring records in the first half.

Durant led Golden State with 35 points but shot just 9-for-22.

The Cavaliers actually put up a fight in game three before the Warriors' last-minute surge to stay flawless in the postseason.

Four players-Green, Klay Thompson, Curry and Andre Iguodala-were whistled for two fouls in the first quarter. He also jumped over Michael Jordan for third on the all-time NBA Finals scoring list, and he passed Jordan for the most made free throws ever in the playoffs. Cleveland was 17-of-26 from the stripe.

The message apparently resonated, leading multiple players, including Richard Jefferson and Kevin Love, to reflect on their winding paths to get to the 2016 championships. "That was my very next call", Green said.

For James, it was a record-setting night.

Cleveland opened with the highest-scoring quarter in National Basketball Association history, seizing a 49-33 lead after the first quarter, doing it despite missing eight free throws. But the Lakers lost Finals Game 1 to IN before ripping off four more wins.
