E3 2017: Super Mario Odyssey Co-op Revealed

The big thing in Super Mario Odyssey is that Mario can throw Cappy at anyone or anything and possess it.

"Super Mario Odyssey" will be released on October 27 of this year. Under certain conditions, we might add, as Shigeru Miyamoto playfully pointed out during Ubisoft's press conference that he told the team, "Whatever you do, don't make a jump game or Mario platformer".

Check out co-op mode for "Super Mario Odyssey" in action around the 4:30 mark.

New Donk City looks like a Mario version of New York City with many Donkey Kong references (all the street names are the names of Donkey Kong's rideable animals from the Donkey Kong Country franchise). Thus, gamers can attack any enemy and do whatever they please without the fear of taking any damage.

Super Mario Odyssey won't let you bring Luigi along for the ride, but it will let a second player fling Mario's hat around. I also took control of a rocket to get to a secret area and a large Easter Island style statue with sunglasses, but I'm not sure what that's all about just yet.

Cappy is also invincible, giving the second player a more relaxed gaming experience than playing as Mario.

Not all of Odyssey's fun ideas are tied to the capture mechanic though. We're not going to lie, it's a weird place; instead of Goombas and piranha plants, we were surrounded by kids jumping rope, musicians blaring their instruments, and the mayor of the city begging for Mario's help.

Here's the best stuff I learned!

Nintendo followers are some of the most dedicated on the planet, so it's probably not all that surprising that some diehard Mario fans have already invented a way to quench their insatiable thirst for the no-yet-released Super Mario Odyssey.
