US President Donald Trump is not facing any probe for obstruction of justice, a member of his legal team said today, contradicting Trumps own assertion that he was under investigation for firing former FBI Director James Comey and being the target of a "witch hunt".
Donald Trump is not under investigation for firing FBI Director James Comey, the president's lawyer said, in seeming contradiction to a tweet the United States leader had sent out earlier complaining of a "witch hunt" against him.

WASHINGTON-President Donald Trump is beginning his day with a stream of tweets defending his record and lashing out at the investigation into Russian interference in the election.
"I think it'll be good for the president, good for the country, to have a full and credible investigation so no one can ever say, 'You didn't look at this, or you didn't look at that.' That's what needs to happen, I believe that's what will happen".
On CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday, Sekulow also said that he believed the president would finally explain whether or not there were recordings of his conversations with Comey, as Trump has also tweet-implied, sometime this week. "Witch Hunt" - Sekulow said he was reacting only to a Washington Post story about the alleged probe citing anonymous sources.
Barak Cohen, a former Justice Department lawyer and now a defense attorney specializing in white-collar crime and investigations, said there was no requirement that the special counsel notify Trump he was under investigation, so the lack of such notice meant nothing. So, the president of the United States takes action to remove the Federal Bureau of Investigation director, and he has a recommendation from his attorney general and deputy attorney general to take that action. "You don't know that he's not under investigation, right?"
"That signifies this president knew all too well that it was inappropriate", Schiff said. However, it's important to note that the future of Trump's presidency may have little to do with whether there was a prosecutable violation of the law involved his handling of the Russian Federation investigation.
"All Americans, regardless of party, agree on the fundamental principle that no one is above the law", Lieu said on MSNBC.
"I can't imagine a scenario where the president would not be aware of it", Sekulow replied.
Alternatively, Rubio said the bill should not go to a vote without the opportunity for debate and input.
The senator said he hopes the investigation will be concluded soon.
Sekulow also insisted that Trump's tweets have posed no problems for his legal team. "I don't think that tweet helped him", Gingrich said.
