Dean at Yale University to be replaced after discovered Yelp reviews

A Yale University dean left her position Tuesday after being placed on leave for leaving disparaging reviews on Yelp.

Pierson College Dean June Chu last month issued a public apology for the reviews including one that referred to customers of a local restaurant as "white trash".

"Dean Chu has left her position at Pierson College and wishes the best to the students", Pierson Head Stephen Davis said in his email to students.

Davis said a new dean would be named before the fall semester, the college paper reported.

The news comes after she has been on leave following the discovery of offensive Yelp reviews posted through her account.

Screenshots for another movie theater review showed she called the employees "barely educated morons trying to manage snack orders for the obese and also try to add $7 plus $7". "Over salted and greasy food", Chu wrote about a Japanese restaurant, rating it only one star according to a screenshot.

Chu did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In a May 18 email, Davis announced that Chu had been placed on leave and would not participate in Commencement activities.

Pierson student Darby Mowell "18 said she was not surprised by Chu's departure, and was pleased with Davis" solicitation of student input in the search for her successor.

"I think it was a logical move for her, considering how the revelations seemed to compromise her credibility as someone to whom all Pierson students could feel free to come with their problems without fear of judgement", Mowell said.
