Antoine Griezmann denies he spoke to José Mourinho ahead of signing new Atlético Madrid deal

Antoine Griezmann on moving to Man United next year

I communicated it to the club. But the 26-year-old has not ruled out eventually moving to the Premier League in 12 months' time once the transfer embargo which is restricting Atletico's activity in the transfer window is lifted.

He won't be going anywhere this summer, then, but that hasn't stopped the rumour mill from predicting Griezmann to join Manchester United next year, especially with his buyout clause remaining at €100 million despite penning a new contract. "I have too much respect for this club and the people in it to leave now because, just like Real Sociedad, they've given me everything".

The France global explained that his loyalty to Atletico was borne out of the club's transfer ban - which prevents them from registering any new players until January.

But the goal-getter won't be drawn on hypotheticals that are so far down the line, saying: "To be honest, I don't know".

However, Atletico's transfer ban meant that United boss Jose Mourinho was forced to give up on the France worldwide.

The Red Devils were tipped to sign the French forward this summer but he has explained how he felt like he had to stay at the La Liga club after they received a transfer ban. And Griezmann claims this meant it would have been "dirty" to move to another club. All I am thinking about now is Atletico Madrid. It would be dirty to leave.

Griezmann instead chose to remain at Atleti, signing a new contract until 2022, with a transfer ban meaning that the Spanish side can not strengthen their squad until January.

But the 26-year-old has now rubbished those reports, but did admit he told United chiefs he would be staying at Atletico for at least one more year. I wouldn't have been myself, or the person that I feel I am today, if I had left this club in that way.
