Naval personnel on a Fast Attack Craft belonging to the Northern Naval Command arrested the four fishermen in a fishing dhow illegally fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters about 9 Nm Northwest of Kovilan on Sunday (16).

Pudukottai: Sri Lankan Navy arrested four Indian fishermen and confiscated a fishing dhow for allegedly engaged in illegal fishing activities in the territorial waters of the Island nation at mid night last night.

In third such instance, the Lankan Navy arrested seven fishermen hailing from Mandapam in Ramanathapuram district and impounded two fishing trawlers for cross-border fishing. The men were arrested for fishing off in Neduntheevu near the Sri Lankan coast. Fishermen activist U Arulanandam of Alliance for Release of Innocent Fishermen at Pamban, said the arrested country boat fishermen were produced before Kytes court in Sri Lanka and were remanded in judicial custody till July 31. They have been taken to Kangesanthurai by the Lankan navalmen along with their boat.
