The news made it back to LaVar. and of course he didn't back down, offering to end the speculation with a 2-on-2 game, Shaq and Shareef, vs. LaVar and LaMelo.

Naturally, Ball boasted that LaMelo (a five-star Class of 2019 point guard) would handle Shareef (a four-star Class of 2018 power forward). The stakes? If LaVar beats Shaq, Shaq promises to super-glue a blond wig to his head.

If we're really lucky, LaVar wins and demands that a statue of himself replaces the one of Shaq outside of Staples Center.

The towering 7-foot-1 Diesel even warned a wake-up call to the loudmouthed Ball, saying he's made more free throws per game than he averaged points per game, calling him "Mr. 2.2 a game" in light of his college scoring average.

This isn't the first time O'Neal and Ball have crossed paths, either.

LaVar Ball told ESPN.com's Darren Rovell on Saturday that his son Lonzo could still sign with a major shoe brand after wearing Nikes and Adidas during Las Vegas Summer League play.

"Once he's ready for his one-and-done season at UCLA, it's safe to assume LaMelo will have grown into his 6'3" frame.
