Thundery showers weather warning issued for southern England

The Met Office is warning people to be prepared for thundery showers on Tuesday and Wednesday, and has issued a yellow weather alert.

Thundery showers are expected to push north across southern parts of the United Kingdom through Tuesday evening, perhaps turning more widespread towards midnight.

"Although many places will miss the thunderstorms, there is a chance of some localised flooding of homes, businesses and roads".

However, the Met Office says: "Thundery showers are expected to push north across southern parts of the United Kingdom through Tuesday evening, perhaps turning more widespread towards midnight".

Power networks could also be disrupted by lightning and hail could be an additional hazard. "Similarly, but very locally, hail may cause impacts".

"There is relatively low confidence in the areas more at risk of intense downpours".

This could lead to surface water flooding, particularly across urban areas.
