American support for President Donald Trump has hit a record low six months after he assumed office, according to a poll released Sunday, quoted by Anadolu Agency.

Trump's overall approval rating was down from 42 percent in April.

Mr Trump attacked the poll on Twitter, saying on the one hand that "almost 40% [approval] is not bad at this time", before discrediting the poll as "just about the most inaccurate poll around election time!".

"I wonder why the Secret Service, if this was nefarious, why the Secret Service allowed these people in", attorney Jay Sekulow said this morning of the meeting Donald Trump Jr. arranged with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign.

Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting at Trump Tower past year, which included top campaign staff and Russians linked to the Kremlin, is being scrutinized in Washington.

Thirty-eight per cent of those surveyed believe Trump is making significant progress towards his goals, while 55% feel he is not.

"The ABC/Washington Post Poll, even though nearly 40 percent is not bad at this time, was just about the most inaccurate poll around election time!" the President tweeted.

The poll also showed that 48 percent of the respondents see the U.S. leadership in the world as weaker since Trump was inaugurated in January, with only 27 per cent believing it to be stronger.

On Friday, NBC News reported that a lobbyist who was once a Soviet counter-intelligence officer participated in the meeting, which was also attended by Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and the president's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort.

The questions regarding Trump's interactions with Putin came following his first bilateral sit-down with the Russian leader on the sidelines of the G-20 summit, which many experts saw as a win for Putin.

Trump has a solid 36 percent approval rating, three points below previous record-holder Gerlad Ford. Trump has become the most unpopular US President in last 70 years of the US history.

Correspondent Richard Arnold told Larry Williams six in 10 Americans think Russian Federation tried to influence the last United States presidential campaign.

The poll showed 67% of people asked believed members of Trump's team had helped the Kremlin interfere in USA elections and another 63% didn't like the fact Donald Trump Jr had met with a lawyer from Russian Federation.

For health care, participants prefer Obamacare over any Republican replacement, 50% to 24%. Trump's approval rating has gone down a whopping six point since the 100-day mark of his presidency, and a good portion of that seems to come from the Russian Federation scandal. Meanwhile, fewer than 4 in 10 say the Democratic Party now stands for something, while a slight majority say it "just stands against Trump".

Of those polled, 66 percent said they did not trust the president to effectively represent US interests in negotiations with foreign leaders, with two-thirds also saying they didn't trust him to do so with Putin. Fifty-two percent said all Democrats are focused on is opposing Trump.
