Years after casinos were introduced in the State, the Goa government will finally table a policy in the Goa Legislative Assembly to regulate the casino industry.
"The Chief Minister is already on record that he will address this issue properly".
Goa Forward Party's Jayesh Salgaoncar and Vinod Palyekar, Congress' Philip Neri Rodrigues, Ravi Naik, Digambar Kamat and Tony Fernandes, and BJP's Pramod Sawant and Pravin Zantye were among the early voters. "We do not want more casinos in Mandovi", he had said, responding to a question over permission for the sixth casino.
Pointing out to mediapersons that it was not a government decision, but court directives to permit this vessel to enter into the Mandovi river, Sardesai said, "Goans are well aware and understand the strength and the impact of the high seas during the monsoon".
There are five offshore casinos operating in the Mandovi river off Panaji, while about a dozen onshore casinos operate from the numerous five star resorts in the coastal state.
Speaking to TOI, chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who also holds the home portfolio, said guidelines on casinos will be announced during the session on demand for grants for the home department.
