Barcelona train crash sees 48 people injured after train ploughs into station

At least 48 people have been injured, five of them gravely, when a train crashed at a station in Barcelona, Spain tonight.

BBC reports the train failed to brake when entering the station, smashing into the buffers at the platform.

The crash happened just after 8am local time when the train was unable to stop and slammed into the platform in the Spanish city.

At least 18 of the injured need hospital attention, emergency services said. The driver was among those injured.

Eyewitnesses posted videos and pictures of the crash on social media.

The front of the 7.15am train was badly damaged after it smashed into a buffer at Estacion de Francia as it arrived from the village of San Vicente Calders around 50 miles away.
