BJP national president Amit Shah on Friday had lunch at a Dalit party worker's house apparently in a bid to woo the community ahead of Gujarat and Rajasthan assembly elections.

Gujarat BJP chief Jitu Vaghani, party in-charge in Gujarat Bhupendra Yadav, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Pradipsinh Jadeja were among those who attended the meeting.

Shah packed his Sunday with marathon meetings, which stretched late into the night, with senior party leaders, including Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, reportedly chalking out the final winning strategy, not just for himself but also for the other two BJP candidates - Smriti Irani, who is seeking her second term, and Balwantsinh Rajput, who recently crossed over from the Congress. In May, the party rubbished the allegation that its state chief BS Yeddyurappa refused to eat food cooked at a Dalit's home last week and instead ate idlis ordered from a hotel.

"BJP National President Amit Shah would be in Odisha for three days (Sep 6, 7 and 8) for which a preparatory meeting will be held today".

While the State leadership was actively working on the formation of booth committees, they got entangled in the medical college scam which rocked the BJP State leadership and even central leaders after Parliament witnessed pandemonium.

Besides, the saffron party has planned special programmes from August 9-30 to reach out to people.
