The Broncos have placed defensive end Billy Winn on injured reserve after he suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Bears.

In a corresponding move, the Broncos signed rookie defensive lineman Nelson Adams, who was formerly with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Adams, who wasn't selected during the 2017 NFL Draft, is a 6-foot-3, 287-pound run-stopper out of Mississippi State. On Aug. 8, he was released and replaced by cornerback JaCorey Shepherd. Adams recorded 25 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks during his final collegiate season.

The Broncos, who edged the Bears 24-17 to start the exhibition slate, will be back in action on August 19 when they travel to San Francisco.

Wolfe was being sent for an MRI following practice, and the Broncos hope to have a potential timetable for a return to practice if the exam doesn't reveal more than the medical staff saw in the preliminary look.

Veteran defensive end Derek Wolfe went down with an ankle injury in the morning practice and had to be carted off the field. You know, we're not sure how bad. He has 22.5 sacks during his career.
