White House considering another administration ouster - this is who might be replaced

White House is reportedly considering replacing Rick Perry at the Energy Department

Manchin eyed as potential pick for Energy secretary: report

It is unclear, however, if the Trump White House could pull off such a cabinet shift.

"If Manchin were offered and accepted the position, that would allow West Virginia's Governor Jim Justice - a newly minted Republican - to appoint a GOP successor and bring the party a vote closer in the Senate to being able to repeal Obamacare", Bloomberg explained.

"Senator Manchin has not had any recent conversations with the Administration about the Secretary of Energy position", said Manchin spokesperson Jonathan Kott while declining to answer whether the West Virginia senator would accept such an offer.

The position of Energy Secretary is currently being held by Texas Governor Rick Perry, who famously couldn't remember that he wanted to entirely eliminate the department he now runs.

Manchin was previously considered for the post of Secretary of Energy and is up for reelection in 2018.

Perry, the current Energy secretary, has also been floated as a possible replacement for former Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly. The Air Force veteran was initially under consideration to lead the Pentagon under Trump. A repeal and replace bill failed by one vote last month after three Republicans voted against it. The Energy Department's main tasks include overseeing the national laboratories system, conducting research and development, and maintaining the nation's arsenal of nuclear weapons. Other Republicans, like Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, are working on a bipartisan fix.

Manchin has said in interviews that he warned Trump personally that people in his state who gained insurance under the law don't know who gave it to them, but would surely know who took it away. Trump crushed Hillary Clinton in West Virginia in the 2016 election.

"The bottom line is, if it doesn't help West Virginia, it doesn't make sense to me", Manchin told the newspaper.
