Two soldiers have been killed in Kashmir's Shopian district where security forces were locked in a gunfight with suspected militants since Saturday evening, army officials said on Sunday.

On the same day (August 9), the Army confirmed the killing of 5 terrorists in Kashmir's Machil sector.

Earlier, one soldier was injured in a terrorist attack on an Indian Army camp in Kupwara region of J&K in the wee hours of the morning.

Police said troops of counter insurgency 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), special operations group of state police and central reserve police force surrounded Awneera village on Saturday after receiving information about the presence of terrorists.

Meanwhile, a fierce exchange of fire is going on in the village where three militants are believed to be trapped. However, there is no confirmation about the number of militants killed in the operation.

They said that during the gunfight, four houses were also damaged.

Two militants are still holed up in the area, The Times of India reported.

Seven civilians are reported to have sustained pellet injuries during the clashes and have been shifted to hospital for treatment.
