Third time lucky for 'How I Met Your Mother' spinoff

You're the Worst scribe Alison Bennett has been tapped to write a new take on the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

How I Met Your Mother is one of those shows we all fell in love with, and all felt heartbroken over when it came to an end. In 2013, a pilot starring Greta Gerwig, Nicholas D'Agosto, Drew Tarver and Andrew Santino was shot for How I Met Your Dad, but the project was not greenlit.

The original script was written by HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas as well as Emily Spivey. Last season they tried again with This Is Us co-executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, but due to the schedule and popularity of that show (as well as a promotion to co-showrunners), it didn't work out. No network is attached, but CBS said they would be interested.

FOX Chairman, Dana Waldon revealed the studio's spin-off strategy this week, sharing it's an idea that has been stewing for quite some time. "If it's the right idea the right execution, we'll take that", she said.

"She is completely original, hilariously amusing and a big, big talent", he said. I hear it incorporates some of Bennett's personal experiences.

In addition to serving as a supervising producer on the Stephen Falk-created FX/FX Productions comedy series You're the Worst, Bennett has also worked as a writer and producer on Hulu's The Awesomes and Comedy Central's Idiotsitter.
