USA and South Korean military officials plan to move ahead with large-scale exercises later this month that North Korea, now finalizing plans to launch a salvo of missiles toward Guam, claims are a rehearsal for war.

While immediate confirmation of the reports was not available, Japan has in the past vowed to shoot down North Korean missiles or rockets that threaten to hit its territory.

Mr Trump has said he would respond to any such action with "fire and fury".

He said now was the time to rally behind the United States commander-in-chief in order to protect proud citizens living in United States territories.

Gaminde's remarks comes after North Korea announced earlier on Thursday that the nation has a detailed plan for a missile strike near Guam, where about 7,000 United States troops are stationed, using four intermediate-range ballistic rockets. The president, a wealthy businessman and former reality television personality, sent his tweet after North Korean state news agency, KCNA, said in a statement that "Trump is driving the situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of a nuclear war".

While experts estimate the consequences and economic impact of an imminent USA vs North Korea war, some Guamanians are stockpiling essentials to survive while taking shelter if Pyongyang makes good on its promise to strike the island. Amid the heated words, South Koreans are buying more ready-to-eat meals that could be used in an emergency and the government is going to expand nationwide civil defense drills planned for August 23.

Officials haven't raised the US territory's threat level even after Pyongyang laid out plans to strike near the island in the coming weeks, Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo said. "On Thursday, Trump reiterated complaints about the USA trade imbalance with China and said he would feel "differentl" about the trade issue if China helped more on North Korea. Trump said he thought United States allies South Korea and Japan were "very happy" with how he was handling the confrontation. Tests of North Korea's own missile suggest that now, the island is within the range of Pyongyang.

Naval Base Guam is an important outpost for USA fast-attack nuclear powered submarines that are a key means for gathering intelligence in the region, including off the Korean peninsula and in the South China Sea where China has been building military bases on man-made islands that have stirred tension across Asia.

"I'm glad you're holding the helm, Sir", he said.

He later retweeted a posting from U.S. Pacific Command that showed B-1B Lancer bomber planes on Guam that "stand ready to fulfill USFK's #FightTonight mission if called upon to do so".

"It's just like setting off fireworks because most of their guided missiles just crash midway through flight", she said.

"I think escalating the rhetoric is the wrong answer", Merkel added. "We are with you a thousand percent", Trump said, according to video of the call posted on Calvo's Facebook page.

Trump said hours later, "Let her speak for Germany".
