Florida suspended junior WR Antonio Callaway and six other players have been suspended for the season-opener against MI.

The biggest blow here is obviously the loss of Callaway, who is one of Florida's most risky weapons on offense, accounting for 721 yards and three touchdowns, along with 218 yards returned.

The other players suspended were linebackers James Houston and Ventrell Miller, offensive lineman Kadeem Telfort and defensive linemen Keivonnis Davis, Jordan Smith and Richerd Desir-Jones.

It's unclear at this point why the seven players were suspended, but Callaway went unpunished in May following a police citation for marijuana possession. 2 game vs. the Wolverines at the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium is Brandon Powell. They have missed some practice and will miss the MI game. Callaway hauled in 54 catches for 721 yards and three touchdowns in 2016, plus 35 grabs for 678 yards and four receiving touchdowns as a freshman in 2015.

"We will use this as a learning opportunity and we will have some players step up as we move forward", the coach said.

But his talent has been overshadowed by his troubles. Callaway missed last spring while he was suspended and being investigated by the school after a fellow student's sexual assault claim.

In May, Callaway was cited for a marijuana charge. He received a misdemeanor marijuana citation in May and admitted during a Title IX hearing past year that he was under the influence of marijuana during an alleged sexual assault. He had 27 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 2016.
