Murphy has said all along that Season 7, titled American Horror Story: Cult, would be dealing directly with the presidential election of 2016, and indeed these opening credits feature nightmarish versions of both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton while a patriotic version of the traditional credits theme plays.
A couple things to note: the score has been given a military-esque spin and only five of the main actors are listed in the credits: Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson, Billie Lourd, and Alison Pill. In the credits, fans can see a mixture of creepy images such as bloody hands, a swarm of bees, insects crawling from inside someone's skin, people dressed as scary clowns carrying a casket, blood dripping down the American flag, and people covered in blood. So it looks like this season truly will be a timely-as-hell horror story sprung from the very concept of American democracy.
The 11-episode season will begin on election night in MI, with the real 2016 presidential election serving as a jumping off point for this year's horror story.
American Horror Story: Cult premieres on FX on Tuesday, September 5, at 10 p.m. ET.
