Multiple ambulances sent to school shooting

Sheriff Custodian stopped school shooting

The station also reports a suspect was in custody.

Authorities are responding to reports of a shooting at a high school south of Spokane, Washington.

It happened at Beverly Manor Junior High School.

The Spokesman-Review reports that first responders were at Freeman High School in Rockford Wednesday morning. "At least 4 shots", she said.

She said at least one person was shot but is expected to survive.

Pictures from the scene show a huge number of police cars surrounding the school building, and anxious parents have begun gathering at a nearby petrol station waiting for news on their children. Freeman schools are not part of that district. Officers are checking rooms for any threats, the Spokane Sheriff's Office said on Twitter.

"He called me and said, 'Mom there are gunshots.' He sounded so scared". "You never think about something happening like this at a small school".

More on this as it develops.
