Target plans to hire 100,000 team members, including 1,500 in the Boston area and 3,000 across MA, for the holiday season.
The company announced Wednesday that the jobs will be in stores and distribution and fulfillment centers.
Target said it is offering certain benefits to the team members, including market-competitive wages, a 10 percent merchandise discount at Target and Target.com, an additional 20 percent merchandise wellness discount for fruits and vegetables and all Simply Balanced and C9 merchandise, in addition to a variety of schedules that allow team members to work various hours.
Retailers make almost a third of their annual sales and generate almost 40 percent of their profits during the holiday selling season, which starts a day after Thanksgiving and continues into early January.
The company had hired 7,500 workers to work at the centers previous year as it required additional staffing for three new facilities.
The retailer has been making preparations to boost its online business and take on Amazon and other online rivals, which offer the same products at lower prices and have made shopping more convenient.
Target plans to hire 30,000 more people than a year ago during the holiday season to improve customer service.
