Prices ranged from just above £10 to over £25.

There are also some specific serial numbers for the Jane Austen note that are likely to become fought over by collectors.

Any £10 notes with the AA serial number are expected to be popular and there are a lot of combinations so there should be a high chance of getting one.

A new £10 note is due to be released on 14 September, following on from the new £5 note introduced a year ago.

The serial numbers 16 121775 and 18 071817 as they represent the author's date of birth and death. Proceeds from next month's auction will also go to charity, the Bank of England said. At the time it was particularly praised by members of the blind and visually impaired community for its tactile features.

On the front of the polymer £10 note (the side with raised print), there are two clusters of raised dots in the top left hand corner.

"I'm absolutely delighted with the new ten pound note". The current paper £10 note features Charles Darwin and is 142mm x 75mm.

"The non-vision impaired community may see the introduction of an inclusive £10 note as something minor, but it's another area where I can organise my own life without having to rely on sighted help".
