Salvation Army Volunteers Head To Florida For Hurricane Irma Disaster Relief

Due to the size of the population impacted by Hurricane Harvey, The Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Services Team anticipates this to be the largest and longest emergency response in the history of the organization in America.

"We are one Army with one mission - to serve others, meeting human needs in the name of Jesus Christ without discrimination", said Maj.

The Salvation Army store in the city of Washington says they are happy to help and will contribute 100% of the donations to the victims.

They are only collecting money because they feel as though they can spread financial help easier and more quickly to those who are struggling than actual supplies. "So they request help from other divisions and other territories", he said.

Kody Crosson, Assistant Divisional Emergency Services Director, said he's excited to get to Florida and start helping people.

"Doing the most good" is their motto and the Salvation Army is doing just that.

"We have a team here of about 21 volunteers that are certified to handle the canteen". He also says more north county Salvation Army volunteers could be called to join him if needed.
