Ryan student death: Lawyers refuse to take school official's case

It is alleged that the bar bodies at Sohna and Gurgaon in Haryana have asked their member lawyers not to represent any person or accused in the brutal murder of the seven-year-old boy found murdered in the school.

The court was told that the defence lawyers going from Delhi also faced hostility in the Sohna court.

A senior official of Ryan International School, who was arrested for negligence in the murder of a Class II student, on Wednesday approached the Supreme Court seeking transfer of proceedings in the case from Gurugram to a Delhi court. Senior Advocate KTS Tulsi, representing Thomas in the top court, told the bench that bar associations in both the cities had resolved to not defend the accused.

Tulsi informed the Bench that due to resolutions being passed by two Bar Associations barring lawyers from appearing for the accused, his client is being stripped off his basic right to be represented by a counsel.

In his petition, Francis sought a direction to transfer the case from Gurugram court to Saket district court in Delhi.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra said the matter would be taken up for hearing on Monday.
