Tougher Measures to Entail New N. Korea Santions, Secy Mattis to Tour US Nuclear Bases

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis to visit US Strategic Command Headquarters

President Trump responds to North Korea's latest threats of war, saying the regime in Pyongyang will face consequences even tougher than the recent round of sanctions.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says he's become convinced that the USA must keep all three parts of its nuclear force - rather than eliminate one of them, as he once suggested.

Minot Air Force Base is the only base in the country that houses two legs of the nuclear triad-the B-52 strategic bombers and the ICBMs.

While at the base, Mattis will discuss USSTRATCOM's role in 21st century strategic deterrence with U.S. Air Force Gen. Hyten, commander USSTRATCOM, and senior leaders from the command.

USA deterrent options include strategic bombers and intercontinental-ballistic missiles as well as other solutions like nuclear, space, cyberspace, and global strikes.
