Meanwhile, Angelo Mathews has been left out of the squad after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had confirmed that the all-rounder would miss the opening Test with a calf strain.

Cricket board chief executive Ashley de Silva said Thursday that officials will continue to monitor security in Pakistan from the United Arab Emirates, where two test matches, five one-day internationals and two Twenty20 internationals are scheduled to be played against Pakistan at neutral venues. The key players include Rangana Herath, vice captain Lahiru Thirimanne, Kaushal Silva, Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella.

The SLC Selection Committee has recalled opener Kaushal Silva, who returns to the side after eight months, and fast bowler Suranga Lakmal, who was ruled out of the Test series against India. However, his availability for the 2nd Test is yet to be known. Thirimanne featured in the ODI series against India where he impressed a great deal and was a part of the squad for the 3rd Test against the No.1 team. The 22-year-old Sadeera Samarawickrama will remain a backup to Niroshan Dickwella with the wicket-keeping role. Sadeera has played 27 FC games in his short career scoring 2070 runs at an average of 47.04 and a very high strike rate of 81.20 in this longer format of the game. Silva was called up by Sri Lanka past year, but did not play. The 28-year-old was also named in the home series against Australia last year but didn't get a chance to make his debut.
