Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off the new Varanasi-Vadodara Mahamana Express via videoconferencing here. The 1,531-km journey between the two cities will take 27 hour 30 minutes.There has always been a demand for a direct train between Varanasi and Vadodara.This superfast express train will have 9 stops including Vadodara, Surat, Itarsi, Jabalpur and Varanasi.It boasts modern luxurious coaches with plush interiors. He also inaugurated almost 17 infrastructure projects, including the Ramnagar-Samne Ghat bridge and the Balua Ghat bridge, and laid the foundation of almost six projects. "Hundreds of diseases come knocking at your doorsteps because of lack of hygiene", Modi said. PM Modi started his visit with a trade facilitation centre for the handicrafts at Bada Lalpur called as Deendayal Hastkala Sankul after the ideologue of RSS Deendayal Upadhyaya.

Referring to development projects for weavers, who constitute a major chunk of the population in the city, Modi said his Government wants their works to be showcased globally so as to enhance their economic prospects.
He also pointed out that the poor were now aspiring to give their next generations a better future and assured that the state government was with them in empowering them for this.

PM Modi, who is on a two-day tour of the holy city, yesterday launched several infrastructure projects, flagged off the Mahamana Express between Varanasi and Vadodara and released a postage stamp on different aspects of Lord Ram's life at the historic Tulsi Manas Mandir.
He inaugurated a Pashudhan Arogya Mela and felicitated farmers with loan waiver certificates. Tomorrow, he will address a public meeting at Shahanshahpur village.
