Star Wars Battlefront II Locks Arcade Credits Behind a Timer

Battlefront II heroes pricing tweaked amid backlash 2

Star Wars Battlefront II Locks Arcade Credits Behind a Timer

We've done this with the closed alpha, through the beta last month, and our Play First Trial.

Developed by Motive Studios (the studio built around former Assassin's Creed exec Jade Raymond), the story campaign offers an experience that's both authentically Star Wars and consistently exciting.

An EA rep responded by saying the company wanted "to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes". Hats off to actress Janina Gavankar for making a 'villain' likeable for all the right reasons.

The problem is, the bad publicity for EA doesn't seem like it's going to stop just yet. So is the Force with this game?

The comment from EA garnered over 250,000 negative points in only 18 hours - proof positive that the gaming community is universally railing against the game publisher's tactics. It is sort of an apology, if you can humbly accept. Be sure to check out the title and its expansions at retailers. "Unlocking a hero is a great accomplishment in the game, something we want players to have fun earning". The battles are a little on the slow side - think Darth Vader versus Obi Wan Kenobi in the original film - but if you move deliberately, your lightsaber works as if it existed in the real world. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now be available for 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa for 10,000 credits; and Iden at 5,000 credits.

The decision has provoked such intense anger from fans that EA's subsequent attempt to justify it became the most down voted comment in Reddit history.

Back to the good stuff.

Shivansh And can I ask why is that?

Only time will tell if EA can avoid a loss in profits as a result of this game design mis-step and PR debacle. Unfortunately, many found it to be unfair because you don't earn as much credits after playing online multiplayer matches.

So, will I be buying Star Wars Battlefront II when it's released?

As we mentioned above, the Starfighter Assault mode is made up of 24 total players, with 12 players on each team. It's pure Star Wars magic, and it'll make your nostalgia sing with its vibrant authenticity (as well as tickling that need for a slick and robust shooter).

The developer also stated that they would be closely watching analytics about time invested in the game by players and make changes accordingly to keep the game fair.
