Brazil full-back Dani Alves has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a knee ligament injury, the Brazilian Football Confederation has confirmed.

Alves sustained the injury in the 80th minute during PSG's Coupe de France victory over Les Herbiers.

The report according to the Brazil Newspaper says Rodrigo Lasmar and the team's co-ordinator Edu Gaspar arrived in Paris on Thursday and spent about four hours meeting with Alves and PSG doctors at the club's training centre.

"Close examinations confirmed the initial diagnosis of an anterior cruciate ligament injury, requiring surgical treatment", a statement read on the Brazil Football Federation website on Friday.

Meanwhile, Neymar will be available for the world cup with the PSG forward already working on his recovery after dealing with a broken foot. He wanted to know what he needed to do to play in the same condition he was before.

The Selecao's other right-back options include Bayern Munich's Rafinha and Manchester City's Danilo. "However, the rest period required is incompatible with the constraints of optimal preparation for the coming World Cup".

All said and done, Daniel Alves' involvement until now in comparison to his positional rivals is a reflection of Tite's faith in him as a player, winner and leader in the dressing room.
